This piece is a study of one of the most astonishing Australian native bees. They have glittering metallic blues spots on their abdomen. Although Cloak and Dagger Cuckoo bees are indescribably beautiful, they lead a life that we might perceive to be deceitful because they lay their eggs in other bees’ nests, particularly the Blue Banded Bee. Because of this symbiotic relationship, I decided to paint these two different species in individual artworks while at the same time complementing each other.
